How it works?

Send me what you've got

A Google Doc, a PDF, a photo of your notebook, whatever you already share with students today. Nothing needs to be reformatted on your end.

I build it into a bundle

I work with you to turn it into structured collections and exercises in Captrice. I'll also help with writing tablature in a format that can be played through the MIDI player. Every thing gets packaged into a "bundle".

You get a bundle code

It's a 10-character code that you distribute however you want. Send it in a Whatsapp/Telegram message to your students, drop it in a Gumroad pack or a Patreon perk, or just give it away freely.

Your students unlock it in the app

Those who have the code can enter it in Captrice and import everything with a single click. No signup, nothing to install. The app works in any web browser on PC/tablet/smartphone.

This is the beta workflow. Down the line, teachers will manage their own material and bundle codes through a dashboard inside the app. Rest of it stays the same.

Where it stands today?

Closed beta on purpose

I started building Captrice in 2024, initially for myself, and then for other self-motivated guitar players. That part of the software is quite stable.

The core of the teacher's edition is also built (the demo on the right is real, not a mockup) but there's no dashboard yet for teachers to manage their data. For now I plan to do it myself manually. Instead of building everything upfront in a silo, I am looking to iterate on it in collaboration with teachers.

During beta it's free for you. There will be a paid plan for teachers eventually, but I'll ensure nobody in this beta gets surprised by it! As mentioned before, Captrice will always be free for students.

Teachers who are involved early get to shape the product as well as the pricing.

Questions teachers usually ask

FAQs

  • How do you ensure that my course material stays private?

    Your course material is not discoverable without the bundle code. A bundle is accessible to only those who know the unique, randomly generated code that's practically impossible to guess. It's similar to how you share a google doc with "anyone who has the link".

    Read the Teacher's edition (closed beta) section of the Privacy Policy for more details. If you decide to participate in the beta program, I'll share the drafts of terms of use and privacy policy (specific to the teacher's edition) with you.

  • Can I delete or deactivate a bundle that I've already shared with my students?

    Yes. But note that once some one "redeems" a code, the bundle data gets locally copied into their app. That means if a bundle is deleted or deactivated later, it's no longer redeemable by new students, but those who have already redeemed will continue to have it.

  • What happens when beta ends?

    There will be paid plan for teachers with access to a dashboard for managing their course material and generating bundle codes themselves. You will be notified about it in advance. You're free to opt out of the paid plan, in which case your data will be archived and handed over to you in readable format, and then permanently deleted from the system.

  • What's in it for me?

    More effective teaching, since students are more likely to practice at home between lessons. You also build a reusable library of your own material, with none of the overhead of a student-management system. A bundle code can be shared with anyone privately or publicly, no accounts needed. After the beta ends, I'd be happy to offer discounted pricing and priority support for beta participants.

  • Do my students need to download anything?

    No. Captrice runs in any web browser on PC/tablet/mobile. Your students just have to copy-paste the code in the app, and the bundle gets downloaded for them. That also means no "student management" overhead for you.

  • Does this only work for guitar?

    Captrice is built around guitar right now because that's the instrument I play. But the workflow works for music practice in general. If you teach another instrument, I'm happy to discuss and figure out if it's a fit.
