The current "no-signup, local-only" version of captrice.io is NOT a commercial offerring, and comes without any guarantees or warranties.

Your data is completely owned by you—it's persisted in your browser's IndexedDB and never leaves your computer by itself. It's recommended to take regular backups using the backup/restore functionality provided in on the settings page store them safely. Your data is your own risk.

The content available in the Library section of the site could be derived from the work of others. Examples:

  1. Guitar tablature/music notation for a piece of music belonging to an artist
  2. Guitar tablature/music notation for guitar lesson shared by a content creator on platforms such as Youtube, Instagram etc.

Captrice does not claim ownership of the original music. The website tries to give attribution to the original artist/content creator where applicable. No copyright infringement is intended. Please reach out to in case of any objections.

The Teacher's edition of Captrice is in closed beta at present and the terms of use specific to it are shared privately with the teachers participating in the beta program for now. They will be made public once it's out of beta.

Privacy policy

The website (www.captrice.io) and the app (app.captrice.io) don't collect user data or set cookies at all. All data is persisted in your browser and never leaves your computer by itself.

Third party tools and services

Captrice relies on some third party tools and services, so it's important to know the following:

Buttondown
If you voluntarily signup for the newsletter subscription, your email address is collected via buttondown.
Umami
Umami is used for traffic and visitor analytics. All visitor data is anonymized and no cookies are used.
YouTube embeds
When you add a YouTube URL to a collection or exercise, the video is displayed using YouTube's embedded player (an iframe) hosted on YouTube's own domain. As a result, YouTube/Google may set cookies and collect data in your browser according to their own policies — these cookies are set directly by Google, not by Captrice, and are governed by Google's Privacy Policy. Captrice does not control what data YouTube collects through the embedded player.
Teacher's edition (closed beta)

The teacher's edition of Captrice is currently in closed beta, where teachers share their own course material with me directly and I help them turn it into structured exercises inside Captrice and generate a private bundle code for their students. Here's what that means in practice:

  • What I collect: the material you send me (documents, notes, links, or similar), along with your email address and any details you share about how you'd like it structured.
  • What it's used for: building your exercises and bundle code. Email address is only used for reaching out to you regarding the beta program. I don't use your material for anything beyond that.
  • Who sees it: just me. It isn't sold, shared with third parties, or used to train anything, and it isn't shown to any teacher or student other than the ones you choose to give your bundle code to.
  • Ownership: it's still your material. Sharing it with me to build your bundle doesn't give me any rights to it.
  • How long I keep it: for as long as your bundle is active, or until you ask me to remove it by sending an email from your registered email address. Then I deactivate the bundle and delete your material completely.

You may support this project voluntarily, but note that those payments are non-refundable.

The Teacher's edition of Captrice is in closed beta, during which it's free for teachers. The refund policy specific to it will be added here once it's out of beta.
