"Practice with a metronome" is probably the most common piece of advice given to guitar players. Scroll through any guitar related subreddit (there are so many of them) and you'll find a new thread every other day, either asking how to use a metronome or asking how to play faster, where someone inevitably answers: "use a metronome"!
Although the advice is good and well-intentioned, it ends up being a bit too vague to put into practice, especially for beginners. A disproportionately large number of guitar players are self-taught compared to other musicians. Without a teacher or a guide, one has very little chance of learning the fundamentals of rhythm. And without that foundation, the metronome feels like a strange tool. What it does is quite obvious, and of course it must be useful because everyone swears by it, yet you have no clue how to actually use it to improve your playing.
To close that gap, I made an interactive metronome tutorial that teaches the basic of time signatures and how to count and subdivide beats. If you've struggled with a metronome before or ever felt like it makes your playing seem worse instead of better, learning the fundamentals is well worth your time. It shouldn't take more than 15-20 minutes to complete the tutorial and a guitar is not required. Give it a try. I hope it clicks 😉.
